Stability and weight
bm1 is extraordinarily light. The density of bm1 is slightly higher than that of similarly processed cork. The heat insulating capacity of bm1 is equivalently high, even in wet conditions.
Compared to other natural materials, bm1 is highly stable in shape, even when exposed to moisture: no noteworthy swelling or shrinking, no warping!
Perpendicular to the plane of the bark layers, bm1 is characterised by high elasticity and toughness.
It is compressible when exposed to major mechanical impact, its recovery capacity being comparable to hardwood. When exposed to mechanical impacts by harder objects, particularly parallel to the plane of the bark layers, bm1 might develop so called “dents”.
